ABOUT THIS SERIES - BLUE

The first time Rachael Thompson drove along California's Pacific Coast Highway, she was lost — full of possibility, but with no real plan for what would come next. In her series Blue, Thompson captures the rhythmic journey along the undulating ribbons of Big Sur’s oceanside cliffs that both awakened her senses and brought her home.

We only print on archival papers and surfaces, including silver halide photographic papers, museum-quality heavyweight rag papers, metal, acrylic, and wood.

PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINTS

Fuji Deep Matte Velvet is a luxurious, velvety smooth, acid-free, archival silver halide photographic paper with a non-reflective surface that creates gorgeous, detailed fine art images with rich, vivid colors that feel both muted and saturated at the same time.

RAG PRINTS

Moab Somerset Museum Rag is an archival 100% cotton heavyweight 300gsm acid-free paper with an ultra-smooth surface and matte finish that produces deep, rich blacks and unparalleled color.

METAL PRINTS

Our metal prints are made by infusing dyes directly into specially coated aluminum sheets, resulting in uniquely durable prints with vibrant colors, brilliant luminescence, and exceptional detail. The ultra-hard scratch-resistant surface is waterproof/weatherproof and can be cleaned easily — just avoid direct sunlight.

FRAMES

Handcrafted in California, our solid wood box frames are made of natural wood with a rich finish and grain that can vary slightly from frame to frame. They are available in black, white and natural basswood.

Rachael Thompson is a photographer, former journalist, and the founder of Stolen Butter. But above all, she is a lifelong storyteller with an insatiable curiosity and unending passion for documenting and understanding the truth of our lived experiences. As a print journalist, she used words. As a photographer, she uses images. As an artist, she often uses both.

Thompson’s art blossoms from the overlapping narratives of her life, where she crafts indelible images from fleeting moments that reveal our humanity, who we are, and how we live. Her foundations in journalism — and her wanderlust — are evident in her work. She immerses herself in each place she visits, capturing the essence of its people, its culture and its terrain as she explores the unknown, feeling everything along each journey.

Thompson’s photographs have been published in the New York TimesEntertainment WeeklyPeopleHollywood Reporter, and on book covers, album covers, billboards, and posters. In 2021, she founded Stolen Butter to amplify the voices of her fellow artists. She lives in Santa Monica, California, with her husband and daughter.
